Mama t7seny agdr 3ala hal ms2olya? I asked my mother out of the bloom.
• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

She chuckled and replied: “ya 7bebty enty la tshelen ham! Ttw83en ana lma tzwjt knt gad kal hal ms2olyat? Aked la! Bs al7yaa t3lmk w Faisal enshala bykon m3ak 6ol elwgt w tt56on kl eli yje b6regkum mn ‘3air shar!” she paused for a second and continued, “enti ya 7abebty la tshelen ham shay ‘3air enk once you commit there is no –”

“Madam Fahdah, Mister Fahad is here, he says he wants to see madam Sultana.” Jen’s voice blasted through the landline telephone
“ok thank you Jen!” replied my mother, “yalah ro7i ejlsi m3ah aked mshtag lk w ana blbas 3shan b6l3!”

I made my way back to the brown living room, but didn’t find him there. I went to the staircase and I saw no sign of him..
“Suuull!” I heard my uncle’s voice coming from my room

I have a super strong relationship with my uncle, I still respect him since he’s my dad’s brother but then he’s only 6 years older than I am, so we’re like close friends. I would never mind saying anything to him since I was kind of the reason he met his fiancé, and know a lot of his secrets.

Hussa is one of my friends back from when I used to live abroad, and I’m still in touch with. I guarantee you she is the cutest creature you’ll ever see; although she’s 21 years old she still hasnt grown from her ‘baby-face’ features, and not only her face that is baby-like, but everything about her from head to toe is supper tiny. Two Decembers ago, when I first came back home from University, I had a friends’ gathering at my house, since I missed them so much. On a chilly night, eleven girls including Areen and I were sitting around a fire pit sharing our stories from university and some of the events we went through. By the sound of AlIsha prayer, Hussa asked if I can show her the way to a room where she can pray, and so I took her to a living room next to our guestroom and asked her to wait there till I got her a mat. I remember walking away from her, and hearing her close the door really fast and following me, I turned around to find her following me with a red face,

“eish feek?”
“fe a7ad already bl’3rfa w ana fta7t 3laih!”
“3laih? Meen fe? baba?” I asked her
“la ma atwa8a3! Ana a3rf shakil 3amy!”
“Hw! 6yb t3ali m3ay w 9aly b’3rfty, w ana ashof men fe!”
I took her to my room to pray, and went to see who’s in there! But there was no one! So I went to ask the maids,
“Jen do you know who was in the guest’s living room?”
“umm yess! It was mister Fahad!”
“What? Fahad? What was he doing there?”
“I don’t know I think he wants something with the TV or something, I don’t know!”
“Ok thank you!”
“I went outside and grabbed my phone to see a miscall and a Whatsapp from him,
“um I think I freaked one of your friends lol ops :p?”
I decided to call him,
“Alo Fahad!”
“Sul men hee?”
“hw leshh ba3ad?”
“because shaklahaa katkooot! Ma amzaa77 how old is she? Mu 9’3era 3laik m9adgt’haa?”
I laughed, “I know she’s a cutie, w laa she’s 19!”
“6yb ra3yat 7rkat?” he asked
“Fahaaadd, shg9dk haa?” I replied back

and just like any two -- they had a crush on each other, they got to know each other, fell in love with each other, and love each other a little bit more everyday. So last May they finally became engaged and official. I couldn’t have been any happier for both of them, she’s a great girl and he’s a wonderful man, and both of them deserve the best. Each other.

* * * *

“ahlaaaaan” I squealed as I fast-walked to hug him.
“ya haala b m6awl el’3ebaat! T9dgen lw gltlk lk wa7sha?” he asked
“ee a9dg.” I replied all confident
“6yb t9dgen lw glt lk as7bha 5la9 ma tstahlen?” he asked again jokingly
“laaa ma a9ddggg” I screamed as our giggles filled the place
“6yb t3alii t3ali ng3id” we both sat in front of each other and started talking, “haa shglty 3n eli bali balk?”
“ay bali balkk?” I replied back
“mu 3laayy Sal6onaa” he gave me the wink face
“mashalahhh w hatha ana agol bgola, athrk daryy?”
“yarb enah Faisal! Kl swalfah 3ndi” he replied back
“6yb eish elm6lob?” I asked, acting a little pissed
“la t7mgen 3ad! Tdren enty b Faisal ga3id b bait aboy Ahmad zay el doda, glt ajy aklmk!”
“mafe shay yngal, I said yes enshala, bs ena we wont publicize it and nothing till I graduate, b ethn alah!” I replied confidently, “b3dain what is he doing at baba Ahmad’s? I though he had stuff to do..” I asked confused
“ha? Ee atwa8a3 5la9 bs ja ysalim 3ala aboy!” he stood up and came to hug me, “anyways, mabrokkk ya 7bebat 3amikkk! Alah ytamim 3ala 5air ya rbb, don’t drive him crazy!”
I laughed and hugged him back, “alah ybark feeek! Wala ho eli shakla byjanini!”

As soon as my uncle left the house, I got a call from Faisal
“Aloo?”
“a7ad galk 9otik yrid elroo7?” he ‘greeted’ me
“ee ktheeerr!” I replied teasingly
“mashalahh 3amty Sultana meen eli galkk? ha?” he asked
I laughed as I laid down my bed, “la yn6 fek 3rg amza7!”
“6yb 9otk yrd elro7, w ‘97ktk t7yy baladd!”
I never knew how or what to reply to him when he sweet-talked me, like I swear I think my brain just blanks. Stops working. Nothing comes up on my mind to say. Nada. I think a huge part of that is because I was a bit shy around him around that time, specially with all the new changes..
Again, literally -- B l a n k !

So I always keep quite, fearing that I might say something stupid or too silly that it’ll ruin the moment,

“6yb baba listen, klna b3d bukra jayeen ok?”
“Faisal you should really put this in mind, w mu eni I’m blaming you, bs I really wished eni agdr aswi milka w Areen tkon hina! I’m doing all of this to please you.. I just hope you know it.”

“I know baby, and I appreciate it w I promise you r7 a3w’9k enshala.. I just realized that really you never know if you’re living tomorrow or not, and so you need to do what makes you happy and not waste a minutes.” He explained to me his point of view, “and don’t worry about Areen I just got off the phone with her and explained why you never had the chance to deliver the news to her yourself.”
“If you were here I would’ve hugged you..” I confessed
“5ams digayg w ana 3ndk!”
I laughed at his tone, “ya majnon! Eg3d mkanik bs! A9lan I need to sleep, I need to wake up and hunt for dresses” I replied irritated
“you’ll look breathtaking with anything on!”
“good night Faisal”
“good night 7abebty”

- -

My mom informed my dad with my decision the next day and he was extremely happy that he was marrying his only daughter to his nephew. He called my uncle and they agreed on the date, time, and everything else.

In the evening, Faisal was coming over, although we didn’t need to talk about anything anymore, he insisted that he wanted to come visit. I informed my mother and she informed the kitchen on everything they needed to do. I wore my Sleeve Dolce and Gabbana dress with lace printed flowers, my Mui Mui black heels, and decided to part my hair in the middle and have it curled into big waves.

Jen informed me that he was waiting in the salon downstairs, and when I saw him in a Thob and a Shma’3. Oh dear God have mercy. Triple the hotness. Its not like it was the first time I ever see him in a thoob, but I was looking differently at him that time, and when you look at someone as the person that youll most likely spend the rest of your life with, believe me it has a different taste to your eyes. He stood up when he saw me, and I slowed down with every step I got closer to him. We stood staring at each other, till it was too much for me to handle and I started staring at my feet. He lifted my chin up and kissed my forehead, “one day and you’re mine..”
“I was always yours..” I replied (count this one for me, its the first time I say something cute.)
“officially and legally mine.” He replied
“enshala!” I replied shyly
“6yb Mrs. Faisal AlX, how many kids do you want to have?”
I looked at him with shocked facial expressions, and he burst into laughs
“maa y‘97kk!”
“amza7 walaa!”
“Faisal tra ana ma abi yntshr el5abar lain at least my last university year! Ma abi milka, zwaj 9’3er in two years will do, bs hatha eli abeh lw sm7t!”
“enti tamren w ttdalalen bs! Bs ma gltely km btjeben le bnt 7lwa zaykk?” he asked
“uff shklk 3l6an, hina mu m9na3 bizaren!”
ya zen elsamjen bss!
I hit his arms slightly, 6al3a 3laik 7abeeby I replied sarcastically
bl9b6! 7abeeeebk!

I wanted to change the subject so I asked him, So to whom do I owe the pleasure of you visit enshala? Sh3ndk? Lesh jay?

I was pissed. And wasnt planning on letting this one go easily.

Incoming call
Faisal SA #

I pressed the decline button, and went to my Whatsapp chat-settings to turn off the Last Seen Timestamp, so that he wouldnt know if Im online or not. Honestly, lately I started getting annoyed by people being on my back for not answering right away and talking to me once I open my Whatsapp, and so I thought it was time to become a ghost:).

Faisal called again, and I ignored him. He had to know that I was angry with him, and that his sweet talks wont let me pass this one. After a couple of minutes Jen came into my room with the Kitchens portable telephone and told me that someone wanted me on the other line,

Who is it? I asked her
I dont know! They say its urgent! she replied back
Alo? I spoke through the phone

How was I supposed to answer him? He actually made sense back then! and I felt like I shouldnt be mad at him anymore. I got my explanation and apology. Such things are what made me grow to love Faisal more and more everyday. His maturity, decision-making, and sensibleness were the things that really differentiated him than everyone else around me. I fell in love with his manliness more than anything else that defined him, because I always knew that no matter what happens hell always have my back.

6yb 5la9 bs next time please keep me updated, I replied back to him

I followed her voice to her walk in closet; to see her in the most beautiful maxi dress I laid my eyes on. The maroon dress sat on her body as if it had been made for her, it hugged her figure in the right places and complimented her skin color perfectly! She looked stunning as always.
